Hi there.
My name is Amanda Winston (formerly Amanda Lynn Meyer), and among many things, I am an actor.
Anytime I tell a stranger I'm an actor, I get a smattering of similar responses. We've all heard them. There's the old, "Oh, well that's fun!", the usual, "Good for you!", and my personal favorite, "Unsolicited advice on how to get a better paying job". So my current response, plucked from a fellow actor and wise Meisner coach in Chicago, is that, "Yes, I'm an actor! I play pretend for a living, and it's awesome," (and then quickly change the subject). Originally hailing from the wilds of Indiana, I graduated cum laude with a BA in Theatre from Butler University where I cultivated a vested interest in unconventional theatre. I'll never turn down an old fashioned proscenium or a little Neil Simon, but as an artist I get incredibly excited working on edgy new works, fresh interpretations of old standards, and getting my hands dirty devising and workshopping something totally unique in non-traditional theatres or found spaces. As an artist, pushing the envelope and challenging norms and conventions through transformational storytelling is my bread and butter. On camera, I hold a special place in my heart for the horror genre and character-based original storytelling. With VO, just about anything goes. My theatre experience has brought me to really enjoy the uptick in radio dramas popping up all over the podcast world and I love any chance to create a totally new wacky voice or try out or learn a new accent. When I'm not buzzing around the Windy City, taking classes, auditioning, or working a gig, you will usually find me in my furry Yeti slippers, working away at home on various client's marketing efforts as a project manager. I've also become quite the tea nerd during my time here in Chicago. Seriously, if you want to talk or taste tea, hit me up. |
So what else should you know about me?
I'll end with a quote from Whoopi, because, why not?
"An actress can only play a woman. I'm an actor, I can play anything."
