Butler Theatre Opens Season with 'Eurydice'
Friday, September 17, 2010 Butler Theatre will open its 2010-2011 season with Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl’s contemporary twist on the legend of Orpheus, Oct. 6-10 in Lilly Hall Studio Theatre 168. Show times are 8 p.m. Oct. 6-9 and 2 p.m. Oct. 9-10. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Call (317) 940-9247 or e-mail [email protected] for tickets. Artists and composers have been inspired for centuries by the ancient Greek legend of Orpheus, who loved Eurydice so much that he followed her to the realm of the dead to bring her back. Pulitzer Prize finalist and MacArthur Fellowship winner Sarah Ruhl tells the story this time from Eurydice’s point of view. This contemporary twist on a timeless tale is a witty, poignant and whimsical meditation on husbands and wives, fathers and daughters, love and loss and the ephemeral mists of memory. Eurydice will be followed by William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, Dec. 1-5. Media contact Marc Allan [email protected] (317) 940-9822
