I've been slow on the update - but as you may have noticed I am now officially Amanda Winston! All areas of my site and resumés should be updated, and if you try to go to my old web address or email you should be automatically redirected to the new website or email address.
My first gig as Amanda Winston was as a backstage manager for the Congresses for Future Medical, Science, and Technology Leaders in Lowell, MA during the last week of June. I was in charge of running all of the backstage action of these two 3 day events (6 days in total) with various speakers, workshops, and demos. The events cater to high achieving high-schoolers looking to get a leg up in the medical, science, and technology fields, and I must say I was truly inspired and impressed by the speakers and these kids' enthusiasm. It was a treat to put on my stage manager hat again and do something a little different - and it's fun when my day job can lead into opportunities in my creative life (the folks who run the Congresses are one of my project management clients). I hope to return next year and do it all again! Coming up next, Amanda will be playing the lead role, Liz, in a full-length staged reading of The Box Office, a new play by Matthew Fowler. This is part of the HARVEST: Festival of New Works at the Side Project Theatre Company in Roger's Park. This will be directed by my lovely friend and colleague Raphael Schwartzman, and will co-star Janet Magnuson, Sarah Patin, Andrew Pond, and Wesley Whitaker. The reading will take place on Saturday, July 29th at 7:30pm and tickets are free! Get all the details on my Current Projects page. Here's a photo I snuck of the Boston Dynamics robotics demo at the Congress for Future Science & Technology Leaders!

Fun shots below from Fury Theatre's very successful fundraiser, Bottom Shelf Theatre!
The Dining Room has ended (5th best selling show of all time at Oil Lamp Theater!) and now I have something fun to show you - the short student film from last year I starred in has finally been released! Check out "Meanwhile Drive" written/directed by Abdullah Azizi, below. Now also on my Film Shorts page. Also, I just finished editing together my voiceover demo! Check it out on my Voiceover page or hit the play button below. My next project (as I keep reminding everyone ;) ) is my wedding, but I will have a brief interlude as an emcee for Fury Theatre's March 15th fundraiser, "Bottom Shelf Theatre: Reasons Why We Drink". It's a fun night of staged readings of the worst plays we could find, and tickets include unlimited booze and apps from 7-9pm for only $30 in advance. Check it out!
Excited to say that we've had several sell-out performances of The Dining Room at Oil Lamp Theater - and remaining tickets are going fast, especially for GoldStar discount nights! This show closes February 26th so get your tickets before time runs out -- this may very well be my last show before "Amanda Lynn Meyer" becomes "Amanda Winston" in May ;)
Purchase Tickets Here Below are some photos from the production, now also uploaded under Production Photos. I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday so far! I'm on a short break from rehearsals for The Dining Room at Oil Lamp Theater, and so far it has been quite the challenging and oddly serendipitous experience. The challenge has been tackling 10 different roles in one short play. We get about 6 minutes per scene to fully establish a living breathing character, and then we all have to move on. Finding the quirks and differences in all these characters has been really fun - as well as watching all the other actors discover their characters as well. I've also found to be connecting the the subject of this play - the WASP (white anglo saxon protestants, for the unintiated) "dining room" culture in odd ways. I recently hosted my first "formal" dinner at my apartment with family, and I found myself doing my best imitation of a proper dining room setup like in the play. I may not have had fancy napkin rings or crystal glassware, but it felt special all the same. Something about preparing and sharing food with others, and the ceremony of it, I think is something we can all relate to on some level. Then, just a few days ago, I was given my late Aunt Debbie's set of fine china. These were given to my Aunt Lynn, her sister, but as she's started a new adventuring traveling the country, these beautiful dishes were bound to be put in storage. I offered to take them and now display them in my cabinets. It's a really beautiful and colorful set, that even includes full tea service for 8 - something this tea lover was quite excited about. I hope to give these lovely dishes some use rather than collect dust. And maybe someday my Aunt's children may want them, and they'll move on. It just seems wrong to put something like a person's china in storage, so for now I am their proud keeper. It's a small way to honor my family and keep my aunt's memory alive. In relation to the play, it helps me understand the outwardly bizarre attachment the characters in this play have to their fine possessions and customs. I hope you are able to attend this play - there's really some excellent work happening in the rehearsal room and I'm excited to share these poignant stories with audiences at OLT. I'm happy to share my friends & family discount with you, readers! Just use code "dining" to get $5 off tickets. Also search for us on Goldstar.com to get 1/2 price tickets on select nights. We run Jan 12-Feb 26th - see you at the theatre! I've been slacking on updates lately as I get caught up on life. So here's a quick run down on the latest.
We've got a great show on our hands! The Curse on Mordrake House is officially open and we nearly sold out our first two performances at the 2016 Chicago Fringe. 3 more shows to go, and now we've got a stellar review to go with it. Come check us out before we run out of time or seats!
Remaining performances: Sunday Sept 4 at 10pm Monday Sept 5 at 5:30pm (Labor Day!) Friday Sept 9 at 7pm Buy tickets at ChicagoFringe.org Review: Claire Zajdel, Fringebiscuit.co.uk "The Barebones Theatre Company stuns in their Chicago Fringe production of The Curse on Mordrake House, a supernatural horror about a Summer Walker’s (gypsy) curse on the children of Sir Mordrake, an apathetic, self-important aristocrat. All three of his children fall victim to macabre supernatural forces in The company’s dynamic energy and tight acting make this an exciting and unmissable theatrical experience. Set in 19th century rural England, playwright Dan Jackson nods to the Bard by writing in elevated iambic pentameter. Jackson’s verse is both enthralling and insightful, setting rich and complex groundwork for chilling yet truthful theatre. The no set and a few props, Barebones lives up to its name, leaving the storytelling up to the precise writing and complicated characters. Raphael Schwartzman’s direction is eerie and intricate, setting each creature and demon in this twisted world apart by its physicality and speech pattern. Quinn Leary captivates as a slimy underworldly demon, while Amanda Lynn Meyer brings sincerity with her sympathetic yet aggressive monster known as a bogart. The entire cast is more than applaudable in a thriller that sparks an otherworldly discussion of morality is both extraordinary and specifically human. The Curse on Mordrake House is playing at The Gift Theatre Sept. 4 @ 10pm, Sept. 5 @ 5:30pm, and Sept. 9 @ 7pm. " Great news - The Curse on Mordrake House has finally been assigned a venue and official show times for our Chicago Fringe Festival debut! *throws confetti* Check out all the details on the Current Projects page! Oh yeah - and Jonah and I moved into a new apartment! Its going to be a busy summer between rehearsals, summer volleyball, and the usual shenanigans, and I can't wait. :) As always, you can keep up with my latest projects here and on my Current Projects page. <3 Apologies for the lack up updates - there's been a lot going on! Here are the big highlights:
And in personal news..... Jonah and I have signed a new lease in Chicago in the West Edgewater neighborhood, AND we recently had to replace one of our cars. So the two of us with our two Honda's, Hank and Rhonda, will be moving in the next month before Jonah leaves for Normal, Illinois to perform in the Illinois Shakespeare Festival through mid August. Meanwhile, I have a wedding to plan..... sleep is for the weak!!!! <3 |
